Description
The Bont 688 Quad Mini roller skate bearing uses a nylon cage, ZZ shields, and nine steel balls made from GCr15 bearing steel. Its compact design helps reduce the weight of a wheel setup while maintaining smooth, consistent performance.
Bont 167/688 bearing adapters fit over 688 mini bearings so they can be used in wheels designed for 608 bearings. Using mini bearings with the correct adapters can create a lighter setup with better acceleration.
Small Bearings, Carefully Finished Running Surfaces
The 688 mini bearing measures 8 x 16 x 5 mm and uses an 8 mm bore. Its compact outer diameter and width make it an option for skaters looking to reduce wheel-setup weight. Check axle size and wheel compatibility separately.
How the Running Surfaces Are Finished
The outer ring is finished through rough grinding, fine grinding, and honing. These are mechanical operations that remove material by grinding. There is no separate polishing process or additive treatment.
Keeping Its Shape Under Load
GCr15 bearing steel helps the bearing retain its shape under load. Correct wheel support, compatible components, and proper installation also matter for smooth running.
Choose the Correct Mini-Bearing Setup
A 688 bearing has a 16 mm outer diameter, while a 608 bearing has a 22 mm outer diameter. The mini bearing therefore needs a suitable adapter when used in a wheel designed for 608 bearings. Choose the bearings-only set if you already have the appropriate setup, or select the bearings-and-adapters option when you need both. Adapters and axle spacers serve different purposes; spacers are not included.
